Notes from the Road (and Home) – November 2008

Hey all, Happy Thanksgiving to each of you – I hope that you are able to spend some time with your family, friends and the people that matter during this holiday season.  I have been running around a little bit, but am looking forward to hanging out with my family and sharing a wonderful holiday meal!

Recently, I was in Las Vegas working away from the home offices and had a chance to enjoy the city a little bit, catch up with friends and enjoy some downtime.  Some recent highlights were:

  • Social House Dinner – I caught up with a great person, Stacy Shoemaker-Rauen from Hospitality Design Magazine for a quick appetizer and drinks at PURE Management Group’s best restaurant.  Chef Joe Elevado is doing as good a job as always and his kitchen is firing on all cylinders.  We sampled an awesome Arctic Char, which was melt in your mouth tender, and an extremely fresh Negi-Hama roll (Yellowtail and Scallions).

  • Elk Cove Wine Dinner – My good friends from Heat Communications, Ken Langdon and Rosalind Terlitzky were kind to invite me to be their guest at this dinner held at Bradley Ogden’s restaurant.  The favorite wines of the evening on my end were their Sparkling wine (who knew?  Small amount produced and sold, at the winery only), 2007 Pinot Gris and 2006 La Boheme Pinot Noir.  The La Boheme recently received a 93-point rating from the press and is an outstanding food wine.

  • Rock n’ Roll Wine at Risqué – I was able to go support my buddies, Chris Hammond and Sonny Barton (the founders) as they held their latest event which coincided with the Beaujolais Nouveau release party on Friday, November 21st.  The Beaujolais was fine to have a few sips of, but is really like Kool-Aid wine, so we moved on towards some of the other selections.  Best wines I tasted were the 2006 Tempranillo by Twisted Oak, not over-oaked and very good flavor; and their Syrah was drinking pretty well too.

Also, I was recently quoted in an article found in the Arizona Republic written by

Peter Corbett.  Mr. Corbett reaches out to our organization from time to time on industry trends, Scottsdale business updates and for general F&B questions.  To take a look, click on the following link Pink Taco alters menu to lift sales.

Again, have a wonderful holiday with those that matter and best to each of you rolling into December Holiday season.  I look forward to sharing with you some of my holiday traditions, please fill me in on some of yours!  Stay tuned for upcoming updates and always remember, Keep Eating & Drinking!
